If you have a Redeem education voucher Sooner or later, a question will come up that isn’t explained in the notice: What is the measure number, exactly? Without it, the Employment Agency can’t process your application—and yet it’s surprisingly easy to find if you know where to look. We’ll walk you through step by step what the number means, what it’s used for, and how you can get it in two minutes.

What is the program number for the education voucher?

The program number is the unique identifier used to register a continuing education program in the Federal Employment Agency’s database—accessible via the „mein NOW“ portal, which has replaced the former KURSNET search. It confirms that the program is AZAV-certified and therefore Eligible for the education voucher is. Without this number, the Employment Agency cannot process your application, because it identifies the specific, approved program.

There is a simple mechanism behind this number. In order for continuing education to be financed through the education voucher, the provider must be certified in accordance with the Accreditation and Approval Ordinance for Employment Promotion (AZAV) and must register the specific program in the Federal Employment Agency’s continuing education database. A number is assigned when the program is registered. It is therefore not a bureaucratic formality, but proof that this specific continuing education program at this specific provider has been reviewed and approved.

Good to know: The program number applies to the individual continuing education program, not to the provider as a whole. A provider offering multiple programs has a separate number for each program.

Where to Find the Measure Number

There are two reliable ways to find the number: using the continuing education search on „mein NOW,“ or contacting the provider directly. The second option is usually the fastest.

Option 1: Look it up via „My NOW“

„mein NOW“ is the Federal Employment Agency’s continuing education portal—it replaced the former KURSNET search in 2025 (the old address automatically redirects to it). The underlying course database has remained the same; every eligible program is listed there by its number. Here’s how to find it:

  1. Open the Search for continuing education courses on mein-now.de.
  2. Search by the name of the continuing education program or the name of the provider. Using the „Funding Type → Education Voucher“ filter, you'll see only AZAV-certified, eligible programs.
  3. Open the relevant result. The measure number is listed in the measure details, often referred to as the „measure number“ or „number of the measure.“.
  4. Copy the number and have it ready for your application.

Option 2: Ask the provider directly

Many people don't realize this: You don't have to look up the number yourself. The educational provider knows the program number for its own courses and will give it to you right away upon request. A quick email or phone call is all it takes. If you're already in talks with a provider, that's the fastest way.

Tip: It’s best to ask for the program number in writing, along with the full name of the program and confirmation of AZAV certification. These three pieces of information together are exactly what you’ll need for the application and when speaking with the agency—and if an application is ever rejected, they’ll serve as the basis for a well-founded objection.

Why the Employment Agency Needs the Number

The Employment Agency does not provide funding for continuing education „in general.“ It approves the coverage of costs for a specific, verified measure. The measure number is the key your case worker uses to retrieve that exact measure in the system and verify whether it is eligible for funding.

In practical terms, this means: If you simply say during the consultation or in your application that you want to „do something with data,“ the agency lacks the basis for a decision. As soon as you specify the measure number, a vague intention becomes a verifiable process. It is precisely this step—from an idea to a concrete measure—that often determines whether a Application Approved Promptly will be or will remain in the dark.

In our consultations, we repeatedly come across applications that are actually well prepared but still get held up because the action number is missing. As soon as it’s on the table, the case worker can begin processing the case in earnest—before that, they have nothing concrete to work with.

Program Number, Course ID, and Provider Number—What Do They Mean?

There are several similar terms related to the measure number that are easily confused. This overview categorizes the three most common ones:

IdentifierWhat it stands forDo you need them for the application?
Action NumberIdentifies the specific, AZAV-certified measure in the Federal Employment Agency's database (accessible via „mein NOW“)Yes—that's the key number
Course ID / Internal Course NumberAssigned internally by the organization, e.g., for registrationNo — relevant only within the provider
Provider Number / License NumberIdentifies the provider and its AZAV certificationIndirectly — covered via the measure number

The only thing that matters is the program number. If the provider or portal lists a different number as the „course ID“ or „registration number,“ that is not the same thing—if in doubt, specifically ask for the program number that can be used to find the continuing education course via „mein NOW.“.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find the measure number?

Through the continuing education search on mein-now.de in the details of the respective program—or, even faster, by asking the educational provider directly.

Do I need the measure number for the application?

Yes. It is the basis on which the Employment Agency reviews the specific measure. An application without a measure number cannot be processed to completion.

What is the difference between a measure number and a course ID?

The measure number is the official identifier issued by the Federal Employment Agency, which the agency requires (available via „mein NOW“). A course ID is usually an internal number used by the provider for registration and is not sufficient for the application.
