Whether you apply for your education voucher at the Employment Agency or the Job Center depends on your current situation, not on the course you want to take. If you are receiving Unemployment Benefits I or are at risk of becoming unemployed, the Employment Agency<\/a> Responsible. If you receive basic income, it's the Job Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Simple Way to Sort Things Out: It Depends on Your Situation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many people assume that the Agency for Employment and the Job Center are essentially the same thing\u2014two names for the same government agency. That is not true. They are two different agencies with two different areas of responsibility, and there is a simple rule for determining which one you should go to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you receive Unemployment Benefits I<\/strong> \u2013 that is, the insurance benefit based on your last salary \u2013 is the Employment Agency<\/strong> in charge of you. Do you receive Citizen's income<\/strong>, the basic income support program, formerly known as Hartz IV, is the Job center<\/strong> responsible. That's the first filter, and for most people, that's the whole answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there's a second scenario that's often overlooked: You are at risk of unemployment<\/strong>. This means you\u2019re still employed, but your contract is expiring, your industry is shrinking, or you\u2019ve been given notice. In that case, you\u2019re not yet unemployed, but you\u2019re already eligible for counseling at the Employment Agency\u2014and the training voucher can be issued to you as a preventive measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tip:<\/strong> Don't wait until you're actually unemployed. If you know your job will be eliminated in the coming months, go to the Employment Agency now, register as \u201eat risk of unemployment,\u201c and apply for the education voucher in advance.
