Target Audience  

The beginner’s course is designed for anyone who wants to learn the Python programming language. Python is a universal language that can be used for a variety of purposes, e.g. in data analysis, software development and web development. The continuing training is the perfect way to get started with these topics. The course is also suitable for career changers without programming experience.

Prerequisites for participation 

No prior knowledge or programming skills are required for the course.

Course Overview

Python Programming

Python Programming is the number one skill you need for machine learning and data science and is especially easy to learn.

Interactive mini-projects

Apply and consolidate what you have learned in two interactive Python Programming mini-projects on car and phone data, so you can use your new skills in day-to-day life.

Final project

In your final project, you will apply the skills you have learned to efficiently automate your workplace.

Modules

Chapter 1: Data Types

In this chapter, you will be introduced to our programming
environment, the Data Lab, for the first time and run your
first commands.
• Represent data as numbers or text in Python
• Store data in variables and lists
• Create, access and modify lists
• Read error messages and use them productively

Chapter 2: Manipulating Data

In this chapter, you’ll learn important basic programming skills.
• Conditions (if-else logic)
• Using standard Python functions such as len() orsum()
• Methods for text and list data types, e.g. str.format() or list.append()
• Defining truth values with comparison operators and
representing them as bool
• Two-hour mini-project with car data to apply the skills you have learned

Chapter 3: Flow Control

In the third chapter, participants polish their programming skills
in Python and acquire advanced coding techniques. You will also
combine individual programming elements such as conditions, loops
and functions together within programs.
• Writing for loops and combining them with conditions
• Writing functions and checking their performance
• Importing Python modules
• Importing data as plain text and exporting it again
• One-hour mini-project using telephone data to apply
the skills you have learnedlls

Modul 4: Consolidation of concepts and final project

In this chapter, you will strengthen what you have learned in the
previous chapters, and learn the aspects listed below. This is all good
preparation for the final project at the end of the chapter.
• Sets
• List comprehension
• Complex data structures
• NumPy Arrays
• Four-hour final project on automating work processes
